To promote women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer, Lal Sabuj Society, with the support of the Foundation for Women Possibilities (FWP), organized a community courtyard awareness meeting in Shibram, Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila.
The awareness session brought together around 50 rural women from the local community, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cervical and breast cancer.
The session was conducted by renowned gynecologist Dr. Fatema Tuz Johora (MBBS, Raj; CCD, BIRDEM; DMU-Ultrasound; FCPS Final in Gynecology & Obstetrics), who served as the keynote speaker and resource person. She explained the early warning signs, risk factors, preventive measures, and the importance of timely medical consultation in simple and accessible language, ensuring that participants could easily understand the information.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed the presentation, allowing participants to discuss their health concerns directly with the doctor and receive practical medical advice. The discussion also emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, self-awareness, and overcoming the stigma surrounding women’s reproductive health.
Lal Sabuj Society stated that many women in rural communities continue to face barriers to accessing accurate health information due to social taboos and limited awareness. This initiative aimed to bridge that gap by empowering women with reliable knowledge and encouraging them to seek appropriate healthcare services without hesitation.
The organization expressed its sincere appreciation to Dr. Fatema Tuz Johora, the dedicated volunteers of the Lalmonirhat team, and all participants for contributing to the success of the event. Lal Sabuj Society reaffirmed its commitment to continuing similar community-based awareness programs, in collaboration with the Foundation for Women Possibilities, to improve women’s health, well-being, and access to essential reproductive healthcare services across rural Bangladesh.
