
A day-long showcase program highlighting initiatives on road safety, waste management, and the right to information was held in Barisal on Wednesday, aiming to present the progress and impact of civic engagement activities carried out in the city over the past four months.
The program began at 10:30 a.m. at Euro Convention Hall in Barisal city and brought together representatives from government institutions, civil society, media, and local communities. The event was organized to share achievements, lessons learned, and future plans of initiatives implemented by Lal Sabuj Society in Barisal.
During the program, detailed discussions were held on activities conducted over the last four months, with participants exchanging views on how these initiatives could be further strengthened and expanded in the future. The discussions focused on improving coordination among stakeholders, increasing citizen participation, and ensuring the sustainability of civic services.
Over the past four months, Lal Sabuj Society, with the support of The Asia Foundation and funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organized several town hall meetings across Barishal. These meetings created platforms for constructive dialogue where citizens shared their opinions, identified existing challenges, and proposed possible solutions related to road safety, waste management, and access to information.
Participants in these engagements included representatives from various government offices, civil society members, journalists, teachers, students, citizen journalists, and individuals from diverse professional backgrounds. Their active participation enriched the discussions and reflected a growing culture of civic awareness and accountability.
The panel discussion at the showcase program featured senior officials, media professionals, development practitioners, health experts, and civil society representatives. Speakers described Lal Sabuj Society’s initiatives as unique and impactful, noting that they are contributing to noticeable improvements in civic services in Barisal.
