On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, the Dhaka District team of Lal Sabuj Society has been carrying out a humanitarian initiative to distribute Iftar packs among underprivileged people in the Jigatola area of Dhanmondi. Throughout the month, the team set a target of distributing 3,000 Iftar packs, and so far 2,500 packs have already been distributed to support day laborers, rickshaw pullers, and other people in need.
This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with A Thousand Lamps. Every afternoon, volunteers from Lal Sabuj Society reach different points in Jigatola to hand over Iftar packs directly to fasting individuals who spend the day working on the streets. The effort has brought particular relief to elderly people who struggle to arrange food for Iftar after a long day of fasting.
Many recipients have expressed deep gratitude for the support. An elderly woman who received an Iftar pack shared her feelings with emotion, saying that fasting while spending the whole day on the streets is extremely difficult at her age. She added that when volunteers arrive with Iftar packs and warm smiles, it feels like someone truly cares about people like them. Many beneficiaries also offer prayers for the volunteers who are dedicating their time to this humanitarian effort.
Azizun Tama, Program Coordinator of the initiative, said that the activity is not just about distributing food but about sharing kindness and compassion during Ramadan. What started as a small personal effort has grown into a collective initiative where volunteers are bringing smiles to around 100 people every day.
Rajib Hossain, a representative of the Dhaka team, said the volunteers are working with organized coordination to reach people consistently each day. He also expressed hope that in the coming days the initiative will reach even more people in need.
