Lal Sabuj Society (LSS) marked a significant milestone by hosting its first training session on “Research Methodology” at its newly established Dhaka office on September 24th. Led by Falguni Reza, LSS’s Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Adviser and a seasoned researcher, the two-hour session, held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., brought together 15 staff and intern members for an intensive introduction to research practices.
Ms. Reza, a development expert with over a decade of experience in gender, youth, and social accountability projects, introduced participants to essential research techniques, including literature reviews and desk research. She guided the group through both quantitative and qualitative approaches, emphasizing the importance of sourcing reliable information from books, newspapers, and online platforms. Participants were also taught advanced search techniques, including how to refine results by domain, file type, and date range, using search engines effectively.
A key highlight of the session was the group work, where participants were divided into three teams to conduct brief research projects. These activities allowed them to apply their newly acquired skills by organizing and presenting information. Mind mapping was also introduced as a valuable tool for organizing ideas and structuring research.
The training concluded with presentations from each group, showcasing their findings and demonstrating the practical skills they had gained. The session is part of LSS’s ongoing efforts to enhance the research capacity of its team, with more trainings planned to further equip staff for their community-focused work.
