Lal Sabuj Society organized an awareness session titled “Lead Poisoning and Health Risks: Awareness Discussion with Workers”. the purpose of this session was to raise awareness about lead poisoning and its health risks.
On Friday, December 26th, this event was held in the Jinjira area of Keraniganj, Dhaka. Nearly 50 workers were involved in lead-related work. The initiative was implemented by the youth-led volunteer organization, Lal Sabuj Society, with funding from UNICEF and in collaboration with the Climate Change and Health Promotion Unit.
During the event, discussions were held on the signs, causes, and preventive measures of this silent killer, as well as the real-life impact it has on the workers. Professor Dr. Iqbal Kabir, Coordinator of the Climate Change and Health Promotion Unit, was present at the session. He elaborated on how to protect oneself from lead exposure and reduce lead-related health risks.
Azizun Nahar Toma, a representative of Lal Sabuj Society, informed the workers about where lead is present, how it causes harm, and how to identify its sources. The session began with an introductory segment led by Lal Sabuj Society’s Project Officer, Mohammad Israfel. He introduced the participants and provided initial discussions on the identification and harmful effects of lead.
Lal Sabuj Society reported that workers involved in lead-related activities in this area of Dhaka are the most affected by lead exposure. Due to long-term exposure, they are gradually developing various health issues but they are unaware of the underlying cause. The primary aim of this event was to raise awareness about this silent killer. The organization advocates for a lead-free environment where everyone can live with health security.
Lal Sabuj Society is committed to raising awareness about the harmful effects of this toxic metal. It is dedicated to creating a safer and healthier environment for all.
