The rise of young women leaders in Bangladesh’s politics in the digital era is both inspiring and promising. However, ensuring their online safety remains a major challenge. To enhance the digital capacity of young women politicians and help them combat cyberbullying, hate speech and misinformation, an interactive session titled “Empowering Young Political Women for a Safer Digital Space” was held on October 28 at The Daily Star Centre in Dhaka.

The timely initiative was organized by the youth-driven social organization Lal Sabuj Society, in collaboration with the Foundation for Women Possibilities. A total of 30 enthusiastic and talented young women leaders from various political parties and affiliated organizations participated in the day-long workshop.

In the context of Bangladesh’s political landscape, young women are not only driving change- they are leading it. Their online presence has become a symbol of empowerment, yet it also exposes them to digital threats and targeted attacks. This special session was not just a discussion; it was a hands-on learning experience. Participants received practical training on digital safety, privacy protection, effective and ethical online communication and strategies to prevent online gender-based violence.

The training was conducted by Shoeb Abdullah, Co-founder of Activate Rights and Minhaz Aman, Head of Research and Policy. They discussed methods for identifying online threats, safe use of digital tools and most importantly, the importance of building collaborative support networks among women leaders.
