
On Friday, July 25, 2025, a day-long training workshop titled “Training on GBV, OGBV, Misinformation and Disinformation for Youth Journalists” was held at Caspia -The Home in Rangpur. The event was jointly organized by Lal Sabuj Society and the Foundation for Women Possibilities.
The workshop ran from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM, with participation from 25 enthusiastic young journalists from various parts of the Rangpur division. The day began with a welcome speech by Sadia Yasmin, President of the Rangpur Chapter of Lal Sabuj Society, followed by an overview of the training structure and objectives presented by Executive Board Member Mostakima Rahman Binita.
In the first session, Md. Waliullah, Staff Correspondent at bdnews24.com, conducted an insightful discussion on misinformation and disinformation. He elaborated on fact-checking tools, the ethics of responsible journalism, and methods for verifying and disseminating accurate news.
After the lunch break, Mostakima Rahman Binita led an analytical session on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV). She engaged the participants in an interactive discussion on journalistic responsibilities, dos and don’ts, and the importance of gender-sensitive reporting.
In the latter half of the day, participants worked in groups to develop and present story ideas that were sensitive to gender issues, allowing them to apply their learnings in a practical context. This segment also included peer review and constructive feedback, facilitated by Lal Sabuj Society’s Program Manager, Md. Israfil, to ensure active participation and critical reflection.
At the end of the event, group story ideas were shared and certificates were distributed among the participants.
This training empowered young journalists to become more conscious, skilled, and proactive in combating false information and addressing gender-based violence in their reporting.
