A one-day brainstorming session for youth leaders was held on 10 October at Celebration Point, Barishal, organized by Lal Sabuj Society (LSS) with the support of The Asia Foundation’s PERI Programme (funded by FCDO). The main aim of the session was to bring together local youth leaders and organizations to identify challenges related to civic rights, participation and accountability.

Around 20 participants attended the session, representing 15 youth and community organizations from Barishal. The participants included members of local youth networks, community groups, women’s networks and media representatives. Notable networks present included Barishal Youth Society, Young Changemakers Network, Green Voice and Barishal Volunteer Forum.

The session included a range of interactive activities. It began with participant introductions and sharing of expectations, followed by an interactive session titled “Civic Space 101: Rights, Responsibilities and Realities.” Participants then engaged in group discussions to identify local civic challenges and collectively developed a Civic Rights Priority List for Barishal.

At the end of the session, participants reflected on civic awareness, participation and accountability. The event strengthened youth networking, collaboration, laid the foundation for future townhall meetings and citizen journalism initiatives.

The session used post-it notes, flipcharts, storytelling activities to encourage interaction, concluded with a group photo and a networking lunch.
