Lead exposure remains a major threat to children’s physical, mental, and intellectual development. According to UNICEF, Bangladesh ranks fourth globally for lead pollution, while World Bank data indicates that lead contamination is among the top three causes of environmentally related deaths in the country.
To address this critical issue, Lal Sabuj Society, in collaboration with UNICEF, the Health Services Division, and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), organized an interactive awareness session titled “Lead-Free Bangladesh”. The session was held on December 15 at Iqbal Siddiquee School and College in Gazipur, with 35 students actively participating.
During the program, students were educated on the harmful effects of lead, the main sources of exposure, and practical measures to prevent lead contamination in daily life. Facilitators emphasized the importance of community-level awareness and encouraged students to share knowledge with their families and peers.
The session combined informative discussions with interactive activities to ensure the participants not only understood the risks but also became proactive in promoting a healthier and lead-free environment. Organizers highlighted that raising awareness among the younger generation is a crucial step toward reducing lead-related health hazards and fostering a safer, healthier future for children across Bangladesh.
Through initiatives like this, Lal Sabuj Society and its partners aim to empower students to take informed actions and contribute to the national effort for a Lead-Free Bangladesh.
