Under the theme “Recycle Your E-Waste, It’s Critical,” the International E-Waste Day 2025 was celebrated in Dhaka.
The awareness event was jointly organized by Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd., one of the country’s leading tech companies and the social organization Lal Sabuj Society, at the head office of Smart Technologies.

In today’s world, electronic devices have become an essential part of daily life. However, the improper disposal or careless dumping of these devices creates electronic waste (e-waste). Old mobile phones, computers, televisions, batteries and other electronic items release harmful substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium and plastic compounds. These chemicals contaminate the soil, pollute water sources and pose serious threats to both the environment and human health.
E-waste can damage the nervous system, kidneys and respiratory organs and may cause skin diseases. The impact is even more dangerous for children, as toxic elements can hinder their brain development and cause long-term health problems.

To address this growing concern, International E-Waste Day is observed globally every year on October 14, aiming to raise awareness and promote sustainable e-waste management.
This year’s event in Bangladesh highlighted the dangers of e-waste and emphasized the importance of proper collection and recycling. Speakers noted that technological advancement must go hand in hand with responsible waste management to ensure a greener and safer future.

Through this joint initiative, corporate and social organizations have opened a new chapter in e-waste awareness and recycling, marking a significant step toward environmental protection and sustainable development.
