Chattogram Youth Take Action Against Plastic Pollution in ‘Plastic Market’ Event

The Chattogram team of Lal Sabuj Society organized a program called “Plastic Market” on September 3 at Bon Gobeshonagor High School. The event was supported by the International Center for Climate Change and Development and funded by the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka. The main goal of the program was to encourage young people to actively participate in addressing climate change and plastic pollution, and to raise awareness about these issues.

More than 150 students and local people attended the event. Participants were able to exchange single-use plastics for environmentally friendly gifts, such as plants and sustainable items. Through this initiative, participants realized the importance of taking small steps to protect their surroundings.

Besides raising general environmental awareness, the program also included quizzes and awareness sessions. Through these sessions, young people learned in detail about climate change, waste management, and how they can take leadership roles in protecting the environment. Notably, the participants actively engaged in discussions about what actions they themselves could take to conserve the environment.
